Berhampur, May 1: The Ganjam Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a strict enforcement drive following recent road accidents, including a major mishap on the Titilagarh road in Bolangir district. Over the past two days, the RTO has seized 11 vehicles carrying passengers illegally on goods transport vehicles.

Authorities have directed all district transport offices to enforce traffic laws strictly, especially against vehicles without fitness certificates or insurance, as well as goods carriers illegally transporting passengers.

Over the past two days, the Ganjam RTO conducted inspections at various locations, with a particular focus on cargo vehicles carrying passengers. The operation led to the seizure of 11 goods vehicles, the cancellation of 5 driving licenses, and the revocation of 10 vehicle registration certificates (RCs).

In addition, 55 drivers were caught driving on the wrong side of the road, and 131 individuals were penalized for violating other road safety regulations. The total fines imposed during this enforcement drive amounted to ₹9,43,500, according to Ganjam RTO official Debashish Swain.
