Puri, June 8: Floodlights which were removed from the Puri Grand Road near the Shri Mandir ,were reinstalled following public resentment.
Sources said, with a bid for beautification and proper lighting on the Grand Road, floodlights were installed before the Puri Jagannath Temple under the aegis of Shri Mandir Parikrama Project. Third Wave, a Delhi-based organisation had installed the lighting system which was focusing the lions gate of the temple.
However, the lights were unnoticedly dismantled from the posts three days ago by the crew members of the organization. As a result, the Bada Danda and the temple’s main entrance was shaded by utter darkness.
Following this, locals, visitors and even the servitors expressed concern as the visitors and devotees faced difficulty to enter the temple due to harsh light at the Lions’ Gate of the Temple.
Acting on it, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena directed the Puri district Collector to enquire into the matter. Shri Jagannath Temple Administration(SJTA), Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee also visited the site today and took stock of the matter. Later, in the afternoon the lightposts were reactivated.
Meanwhile, the Singhadwar Police initiated an investigation to ascertain the reason behind un-installation of the flood lights.
