Rome, Aug 22: Five bodies have been recovered from the hull of the stricken Bayesian yacht that sank during a severe storm, though one passenger remains unaccounted for. Severe weather and the challenging positioning of the sunken yacht complicated the search efforts. Divers, working in 12-minute shifts and assisted by a remote-controlled underwater robot, faced difficulties accessing the ship until Wednesday. On that day, they initially discovered two bodies, followed by two more, and later found a fifth body, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

The 56-meter yacht was anchored near Porticello on the southern Italian island of Sicily when it was struck by a violent storm on Monday. A powerful waterspout severed the yacht’s main mast and capsized it before it sank rapidly.

Of the 22 passengers and crew members on board, 15 were rescued immediately, with eight being taken to local hospitals. Additionally, the body of one crew member was recovered near the site of the sinking.
