Mumbai, June 17: Actor Jackie Shroff joined a special edition of the Fit India Cyclothon at Mumbai's iconic Worli Coastal Cycle Track as part of nationwide celebrations leading up to the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, calling on people to make health and fitness a priority.
Addressing participants at the event, Shroff highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and expressed happiness at the public response to the initiative.
"One should prioritise health...I am very happy to see people coming in large numbers and becoming a part of this initiative...The Prime Minister is also spreading the message of staying healthy and we will also celebrate International Day of Yoga," he said.
The actor also praised the cycling infrastructure at the venue and underscored the significance of fitness.
"Minister Mansukh Madaviya has arrived here on a cycle... Fitness is everything... The cycling track in Mumbai is very beautiful," Shroff said.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in the cyclothon and linked public health to the vision of a developed India.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken about building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), but if we want to achieve that vision, it is essential for citizens to remain healthy. A healthy society is the foundation of a prosperous nation. Therefore, for the last two years, a massive fitness campaign has been run through the Sunday Cycle initiative to contribute towards a developed India," Mandaviya said.
He also stressed the environmental and health benefits of cycling.
"Cycling is a mantra for fitness. Cycling is a solution to pollution. It helps reduce pollution and contributes to a cleaner and healthier nation. It is one simple activity that offers multiple benefits," the minister added.
Actor Taha Shah Badussha also took part in the event and encouraged people to embrace fitness and community participation.
"I came on this track for the first time... We should come here, support each other and build our health. PM Modi had said that fit India is hit India," he said.
The special edition of the Fit India Cyclothon was organised along Mumbai's Worli Coastal Cycle Track as part of the run-up to International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21, drawing participation from public figures and fitness enthusiasts. (ANI)
