Baripada, Sept 8: Ahead of the festive season, the Excise Department launched raids at several locations in Karanjia of Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday, cracking down on the illegal production and sale of liquor.
During the raids, officials destroyed around 5,000 litres of mahua wash and seized 340 litres of country-made liquor along with 32 litres of foreign liquor of various brands. Three persons were arrested in connection with the raids.

Acting on information about illegal liquor being brewed near the village forest area of Miriginendi under Karanjia police limits, the Excise officials conducted a raid at the spot. On seeing the officials, those involved in the illegal brewing operation fled the area. The team subsequently destroyed the mahua wash and seized the ready-to-sell country liquor.
In separate raids, the department also searched shops at Tata, Pingu and the old bus stand area of Karanjia, recovering both foreign and country-made liquor.
Three accused persons were arrested during the operations, and further investigation is underway by the Karanjia Excise Department.
