Berhampur OMVD Constable murder case: High Court orders Crime Branch probe

Berhampur, Sept 8: The Orissa High Court has expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation into the alleged murder of OMVD constable Ashutosh Mrudangia and directed that the case be handed over to the Crime Branch for further investigation.

The deceased’s sister had approached the High Court, alleging lapses in the police investigation and seeking a fair and impartial probe.

According to the allegations, Ashutosh’s dying declaration was recorded twice during his treatment. In the statements, he reportedly alleged that his wife, Sandhya, and her brother had conspired to kill him.

The petitioner also alleged that Sandhya, who is herself a police constable, was not being arrested despite the allegations against her.

The incident reportedly took place on June 5, following which Ashutosh was undergoing treatment in Bhubaneswar. He succumbed to his injuries on June 15.

Taking note of the allegations and the investigation so far, the High Court directed the Crime Branch to take over the probe.
