New Delhi, November 1: Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday said the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has emerged as one of India’s most trusted social security institutions over its 74-year journey.
Addressing the 74th Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi, Mandaviya highlighted EPFO’s ₹32 lakh crore corpus, built through contributions from over 8 crore members. He urged officials to combine technological advancements with compassion, ensuring timely and worker-centric services.
He also called for greater innovation and reforms ahead of EPFO’s 75th year, stressing that workers’ grievances must be addressed with empathy and dignity.
Labour Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar emphasised the need to extend social security benefits to unorganised sector workers and continuously improve services through digital reforms.
EPFO highlighted the impact of its technology upgrade, CITES 2.01, which reduced the average claim settlement time to 2.57 days in October 2026. Members will also be able to access PF balances, transaction details and passbook information through EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service.
In another major initiative, EPFO will automatically settle eligible Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts with balances up to ₹1,000 after identity and bank verification. Around one lakh accounts involving nearly ₹5 crore are expected to benefit.
Central Provident Fund Commissioner Ramesh Krishnamurthi said EPFO now serves around 8 crore contributing members and 85 lakh pensioners, managing a retirement corpus of nearly ₹32 lakh crore.
The celebration reaffirmed EPFO’s commitment to improving social security through technology, transparency and compassionate service.
