Elephant scare in capital, Two wild elephants wreak havoc near Infocity

Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: Panic gripped residents of Chunukoli Basti and Patharagadia village after two wild elephants strayed into the city from the nearby Chandaka forest, causing extensive damage to standing crops.

According to local sources, the elephants broke through the forest boundary late last night and were first spotted roaming near the Infocity police station. The jumbos later made their way into residential areas, triggering fear among locals.

Eyewitnesses reported that the elephants entered farmlands and destroyed large patches of paddy crops, leaving farmers distressed. Forest department officials have rushed to the spot and are monitoring the movement of the animals.

Efforts are underway to drive the elephants back into the forest. Meanwhile, authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and remain alert.
