Therubali, Sept 10: An elephant was killed after being hit by a speeding train near the Therubali locality in Odisha’s Rayagada district late Wednesday night.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the elephant was crossing the railway tracks and was struck by the train. The impact left the animal dead near the railway line.
The carcass was spotted around three metres from the railway track. However, the body has not yet been recovered due to heavy rainfall in the area, which has hampered rescue and recovery operations.
Forest officials and railway authorities are expected to reach the spot and take necessary steps for recovery of the carcass and further investigation into the incident.
