Bhubaneswar, July 25: A 75-year-old woman was allegedly murdered inside her residence in Uparabasta village under Jatni police limits on Friday night in a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the locality. Police suspect the crime may have been committed with the intention of robbery.
The deceased has been identified as Shantilata Pradhan (75). According to preliminary information, unidentified miscreants entered her house late at night and brutally attacked her. She sustained severe head injuries in the assault, leading to her death on the spot.
Family members discovered Shantilata lying in a pool of blood inside the house and immediately informed the Jatni police. A police team rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Investigators have launched a probe into the incident and are examining all possible angles, including robbery as the motive behind the murder. Police are also collecting forensic evidence and questioning local residents to identify the perpetrators.
The brutal killing has created panic among residents of Uparabasta village, with locals demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to trace the accused.
