Koraput, July 5: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today proposed a strategic collaboration between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), IIT Madras, and the Central University of Odisha to offer Diploma and Undergraduate programs in aerospace, defense, and allied sectors.
The initiative aims to foster local talent and create a strong foundation for innovation in southern Odisha.
During his visit to HAL’s Koraput facility, Pradhan highlighted the importance of aligning industry expertise with academic institutions to build a skilled workforce. “These initiatives will encourage innovation at the school level and help build a talent pipeline with advanced knowledge in aerospace engineering,” he said.
Calling HAL a “premier aeronautical manufacturing company,” Pradhan noted that the Koraput unit is among the few in the world producing aero engines for MiG and Sukhoi aircraft. He praised its growing capabilities in avionics, aerospace, defense, and allied sectors.
To accelerate regional development, Pradhan urged HAL to develop a robust MSME cluster around the Koraput facility. “This will generate large-scale employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, while integrating local businesses into HAL’s supply chain,” he added.
He also proposed the establishment of STEM Labs in schools across Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada, with HAL playing a central role in this educational outreach.
Pradhan commended HAL Koraput for its contribution to self-reliance in defense and its impact on socio-economic development. He also appreciated HAL’s CSR efforts in promoting sports, education, skill development, and green growth, describing them as a model of responsible corporate engagement.
