Determination and perseverance pay off: Two women pass matric exam against all odds

Bhubaneswar, May 19: Two women from Saliasahi, have achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully passing their matriculation exams this year, fulfilling a lifelong dream despite facing societal pressures and personal challenges.

Rebati Nayak (34), an Adivasi woman, had to leave her studies before completing class 10. After marriage, she managed household responsibilities while taking up temporary work at a local hospital. Despite criticism and discouraging remarks from others, Rebati remained determined to continue her education and also guided her daughter in studies.

Sonali Pradhan (33), a daughter-in-law from a middle-class family, also faced hindrance from relatives but remained focused on her goal. With guidance from school headmistress Ratnamanjari Dash, both women enrolled in the Odisha State Open School (SIOAS) and diligently prepared for their exams.

Their perseverance paid off, earning them not only personal satisfaction but also recognition from family, school, and the local community. Rebati and Sonali now plan to pursue further studies, including computer courses, inspired by their recent success.
