Cyclone Dana: Flight Services Suspended in Odisha and West Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: Flight services have been suspended in Odisha and West Bengal for the impending circulation of the 'Cyclone Dana' looming over the states.

According to the airport Authorities of India, air services from the Kolkata Airport will remain suspened from today till 9 AM on October 25. All the flights are being suspenced from this afternoon due to the prediction of the landfall of the Cyclone Dana, which is expected to hit the mainland today.

The Kolkata airport authorities decided to suspend flight operations for 15 hours from 6 pm on Thursday in view of the possible impact of cyclone Dana, an official said.

“In view of cyclone Dana's impact on the coastal region of West Bengal, including Kolkata, it has been decided to suspend the flight operations from 6 pm on October 24 to 9 am on October 25 due to predicted heavy winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall at Kolkata,” he added.

Similarly, the authorities of the Biju Patnaik International Airport, has cancelled all air services and flights from 5.30 PM today, based on the emerging situations, anticipated to be triggered by the Cyclone Dana.

Meanwhile, the IMD’s recent bulletin on the ‘Cyclone Dana’ mentioned that the cyclonic circulation is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port in Odisha early on Friday.

The effect of the ‘Cyclone Dana’ may trigger heavy- to- extremely heavy rainfall causing flash flood and stormy wind with tremendous speed on the Odisha-Bengal coastline, during its process of landfall, the newscast predicted.
