Born in 1879 in Kayagram, Bengal, he played a prominent role in the revolutionary movement against British rule and was associated with the Anushilan Samiti and other underground revolutionary networks. Known for his exceptional bravery and leadership, he earned the title “Bagha Jatin” after reportedly killing a tiger with a dagger. He envisioned an independent India and worked tirelessly to mobilise revolutionaries and organise armed resistance against British rule. He was fatally wounded in an encounter with British forces at Balasore in Odisha in September 1915 and succumbed to his injuries on September 10. His extraordinary courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice have secured him an enduring place in India’s history of the freedom movement.
