Seven suspects face arrest after fatal assault on musician

Delhi Police authorities took seven men and one juvenile into custody following a fatal assault on 54-year-old music teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh. Violence erupted late at night in Kilokari Village, Ashram, when Singh objected to loud disturbances from delivery workers and nearby dhaba staff across from his residence. This heartbreaking incident has triggered intense grief and anger across the North-East community residing in the capital region. According to South East DCP Vineet Kumar, an argument over excessive street noise quickly escalated into physical blows. Assailants reportedly stormed upstairs and brutally beat the Manipuri musician right outside his own door. His son, Yaiphaba, frantically rushed him to Holy Family Hospital for emergency medical treatment, but Singh ultimately succumbed to his severe injuries. Residents from the North-East living in metropolitan Delhi have frequently raised concerns regarding urban safety and regional discrimination over the past decade.

Neighbours Seek Accountability

Local residents remain deeply shaken by this sudden tragedy. Eyewitness Sandham Neroda Devi, who shared a building with the victim for eight years, described him as a peaceful, talented individual who consistently avoided unnecessary conflicts. Sangeeta Devi noted that the group of seven to eight attackers only fled when Singh's wife and son opened their door and shouted for help, fearing other neighbours would intervene.
