New Delhi, May 8: Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has reportedly recommended the impeachment of Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma, sources revealed on Wednesday.
The recommendation comes in the wake of findings by a Supreme Court-appointed committee that investigated a cash recovery matter linked to the judge.
According to sources, CJI Khanna has written to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, forwarding the committee’s detailed report along with Justice Varma’s response to the allegations.
This step aligns with the judiciary’s established in-house protocol, where the CJI formally recommends impeachment to the President and Prime Minister if a judge refuses to resign after being advised to do so.
