Ganjam, March 31: A carcass of an elephant was recovered from the Karadabani-Beruabadi area under the Tilisingi Section of Ghumusar (North) Forest Division in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday morning.
Forest officials have confirmed that the carcass is of a tusker.
Sources said locals spotted an ailing elephant straying near the Tilisingi forest on Saturday and informed the Forest Department officials. Following this, the forest officials visited the spot and observed the movements of the animal. However, the pachyderm was not reportedly taken care of by a team of veterinarians.
The tusker succumbed to its injuries due to lack of medical interventions, alleged the locals of Beruabadi village.
On being informed of the pachyderm’s death, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and seized the carcass.
Autopsy of the tusker will be undertaken on Monday from which the underlying cause behind the pachyderm’s premature death will be ascertained, said a Range Official.
