Cuttack, Aug 8: A youth from Jatani has gone missing after allegedly jumping into the Kathajodi River from Subhash Setu in Cuttack on Saturday morning, triggering a search operation by police and fire services personnel.

The missing youth has been identified as Lipu Sahu of the Jatani area. His raincoat, slippers and mobile phone were reportedly found lying on the bridge, raising suspicion that he may have taken the extreme step.

Local residents alerted Barang Police and the Fire Services team after noticing the belongings on the bridge. Police and fire personnel subsequently reached the spot and launched a search operation in the river.

The strong current in the Kathajodi has made the search difficult, with officials suspecting that the youth may have been swept away from the spot.

Meanwhile, police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are trying to ascertain what may have prompted the youth to allegedly take such a drastic step.
