Born to different parents, two Odisha babies meet similar fate

Bhadrak/ Sundargarh, Oct 11: Despite all the government efforts to empower women and promote the girl child, the fairer sex continue to get the unfair treatment in our society. Two recent incidents in Odisha once again reveal how the society continue to treat the female child indifferently. It is not always about others, but even some do ignore a girl child.

 A day after a group of tribal women rescued an abandoned baby girl from a forest in Odisha's Mayurbhanja district, in another similar development, a man allegedly left his wife at the hospital as she gave birth to a girl child for the second time. The incident has been reported from Chandabali block of Bhadrak district.  According to the information, one Mohan Sahu and his wife Minati were blessed with a daughter earlier. But Mohan's preference for the male child was clearly evident , when he left Minati and their second  newborn female child at the hospital and fled from the spot.

Being informed about the incident, Minati's parents with the ASHA worker reached at the hospital and took them home, sources said.

In another similar incident, the police on Wednesday spotted a woman, while she was abandoning her newborn girl child near a bush in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. The incident occurred in Abankela village under Bhashma police limits of Sundargarh district, reports revealed.

As per reports, the woman, who works as a daily wage worker, abandoned her newbon baby girl after delivery. However, some other laborers when heard the baby crying, they wanted enquire if anythng was wrong. To their utter surprise, they spotted the infant lying unattended near a bush and crying with pain. Luckily, she was recued by them.

Being informed, local police traced the mother, who abandoned the child. Both the mother and the child were admitted to Sundargarh District Hospital, sources added.
