Grand Musical and Culinary Tribute to Indo-Russian Ties

President Droupadi Murmu hosted a spectacular state banquet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to honour Russian President Vladimir Putin. This event marked the conclusion of his significant visit to New Delhi. Before departing for Moscow, the Russian leader experienced a night filled with India’s finest regional flavours and a unique musical blend that celebrated the deep cultural connection between the two nations.

The evening was not just about diplomacy but also a showcase of India's soft power through its diverse cuisine and rich musical heritage.

A Pan-Indian Culinary Journey

Chefs at the Rashtrapati Bhavan curated a menu that travelled across the length and breadth of India. Guests enjoyed dishes ranging from the spicy notes of the South to the rich, earthy flavours of Kashmir.

Starter and Soup Selection

Dining began with Murungelai Chaaru, a traditional South Indian rasam (soup) known for its digestive properties. This was followed by a selection of distinct appetisers:

  • Gucchi Doon Chetin: Stuffed morels served with a tangy Kashmiri walnut chutney.
  • Kaale Chane Ke Shikampuri: Pan-grilled kebabs made from black gram.
  • Vegetable Jhol Momo: A nod to Himalayan cuisine, served with a spicy chutney.

The Main Course

Vegetarian delights took centre stage for the main meal. The spread included Zafrani Paneer Roll, Paalak Methi Mattar Ka Saag (spinach and fenugreek curry), Tandoori Bharwan Aloo (stuffed potatoes), Achaari Baingan (pickled eggplant), and the classic Yellow Dal Tadka.

These curries were paired with an aromatic Dry Fruit and Saffron Pulao and an assortment of Indian breads, including:

  • Laccha Parantha
  • Magaz Naan
  • Satanaj Roti
  • Missi Roti
  • Biscuity Roti

Desserts and Beverages

To end the meal on a sweet note, the dignitaries were served Badam Ka Halwa and Kesar-Pista Kulfi. Fresh fruits and traditional sides like Gur Sandesh, Murakku, and various pickles rounded off the feast. For beverages, the focus remained on health with a fresh mix of pomegranate, orange, carrot, and ginger juices.

Musical Fusion: Ragas meet Kalinka

Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Rashtrapati Bhavan Naval Band, accompanied by a talented ensemble of classical instrumentalists. The performance was a thoughtful mix of cultures.

Strengthening Diplomatic Bonds

Beyond the food and music, the banquet served as a platform to reaffirm the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between India and Russia.

President Putin emphasized the long-standing history of cooperation, recalling a declaration signed 15 years ago that elevated relations to a new level. He noted that the partnership is built on equality and mutual respect.

"I know that in India, you say, 'go together, grow together.' These words truly reflect the nature and the character of the Russian-Indian relations, and we will do everything to make sure our strategic partnership grows and develops for the good of all our people." — Vladimir Putin

He further highlighted that both nations are working toward a fairer world order centered on the United Nations.

President Murmu welcomed the guest of honour by celebrating the 25th anniversary of the India-Russia Strategic Partnership. She termed 2025 a highly successful year for the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

Future Cooperation

Significant outcomes were achieved during the two-day summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin agreed to deepen cooperation on transport corridors and aim to take the economic partnership to new heights by 2030.

In a move to boost people-to-people ties, PM Modi also announced that India will soon launch a free 30-day e-tourist visa and a 30-day group tourist visa specifically for Russian citizens.

President Putin was seen off by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar shortly after the dinner, concluding a visit that reinforced the strong geopolitical and cultural bridges between New Delhi and Moscow.
