Cuttack, Feb 27: Actor Lipan Sahu has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, television actress Lakshmipriya Behera, also known as Nikita, in 2019. The Additional District Judge-3, Cuttack, convicted Lipan Sahu in connection with the tragic incident, while acquitting his parents of all charges.
Nikita, aged 28, suffered severe head injuries after falling from the roof of her house in the Mahanadi Vihar area in January 2019. According to reports, the fall occurred following a heated altercation with her husband. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The verdict was delivered based on a case registered by Chauliaganj police, following a complaint lodged by Nikita’s father, Sanatan Behera. Lipan was arrested on charges of attacking and allegedly pushing Nikita, leading to her death due to ongoing marital disputes.
Nikita, a well-known actress, was famous for her roles in popular TV serials like ACP Nikita and Odia films, including Tu Mo Akhira Tara, Chori Chori Mana Chori, and Mathare Dei Pata Odhani. The case has shocked the entertainment industry and highlighted the grave issue of domestic violence.
