Bhubaneswar, June 12: Abhay Kumar Behuria on Wednesday took charge as the Director (Finance) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
With over 30 years of experience, Behuria has a strong background in financial management, strategic planning, and digital transformation. He completed his B.Com (Hons.) with First Class from Utkal University and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). He also holds an Executive Diploma in Business Valuation from the Board of Advanced Studies & Research, ICMAI, adding to his financial expertise.
Before joining NALCO, Behuria worked as the Executive Director (Finance & Accounts) at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a part of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). There, he played an important role in improving both operations and finances.
Under his leadership, RSP reached its highest-ever EBITDA and Profit Before Tax (PBT), even during tough market times. His smart decisions—like closing loss-making units, using resources more efficiently, and focusing on cost control—helped the company save money and increase profits.
Behuria also led many digital changes at Rourkela Steel Plant. These included starting SAP systems in the mines, setting up automated billing, and improving vendor information management.
He played a key role in merging two Provident Fund Trusts, which made the system more efficient and followed rules better. Thanks to his active efforts, several old legal and financial problems were solved, resulting in major recoveries and settlements for the company.
NALCO Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh congratulated Behuria on taking charge as Director (Finance). He said that Behuria’s wide experience in financial management, strategic planning, and digital transformation will help make NALCO’s work even stronger.
Singh also noted that Behuria’s success in boosting growth at SAIL shows he can bring the same level of excellence and innovation to NALCO. With Behuria joining the team, NALCO’s leadership has become even stronger, he added.
