Bhubaneswar, September 8: In a major crackdown, Baliguda police seized 127 kilograms of ganja and five country-made guns during a raid in Kandhamal district.
The accused, identified as Balia Pradhan and Sujan Pradhan of Tilori Panchayat, were arrested for their alleged involvement in ganja smuggling and illegal arms trade.
According to police, the operation was carried out under Operation Prahar following intelligence inputs. “Acting on a tip-off about illegal arms manufacturing, we conducted raids and recovered five country-made weapons along with 127 kg of ganja,” said a senior officer.
Investigations revealed that the duo had been supplying arms to criminals, dacoits, ganja smugglers, and poachers. Police said their activities highlight the growing nexus between narcotics trafficking, firearms circulation, and wildlife crimes in Kandhamal.
Further investigation is underway to identify others linked to the racket.
