10,210 sex workers in state, highest in Balasore: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: There are as many as 10,210 sex workers in Odisha and highest in Balasore district, Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das said in the Assembly on Wednesday. Replaying to a question Das said the state government has identified 10,210 sex workers in 22 of the 30 districts of the state. They were identified during a survey as per the guidelines of the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) and covered under AIDS control programme, the minister informed. The minister in his reply said that Balasore district has the highest number of 1,050 sex workers followed by Koraput and Mayurbhanj districts 750 each, Keonjhar 700, Khordha 610 and Cuttack 250.
