Bhubaneswar, July 31: A young man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youths in Gayatri Basti under the jurisdiction of Lingaraj Police Station, triggering panic in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Jitu Kandi.

According to preliminary information, Jitu was consuming alcohol with a few local youths late on Thursday night when an argument reportedly broke out over an undisclosed issue. The altercation soon turned violent, and the accused allegedly assaulted him brutally, resulting in his death.

On receiving information about the incident, Lingaraj Police, along with a forensic team, rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The forensic team collected samples and other evidence from the crime scene.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have detained three youths in connection with the case and are questioning them.

Investigators are trying to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder. Police are examining whether the killing stemmed from a previous rivalry or whether it was the outcome of a heated argument during the drinking session.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, as the alleged murder took place in a densely populated area of the state capital. Further investigation is underway.
