Bhubaneswar, August 4: A woman approached the Dhauli Police Station on Monday afternoon carrying the carcass of her goat, alleging that it had been brutally killed during an attempted theft. The incident occurred at Samantarapur Patana under the Dhauli police limits.

According to the complaint, Sukanti Bhoi, who earns her livelihood by rearing goats, alleged that her mother, Kusum, had taken the animals out for grazing on Monday. At around 12:30 pm, one of the goats was grazing near the embankment road close to their residence when a villager, identified as Raju Bhoi, allegedly arrived on a scooter and attempted to steal the animal.

Kusum reportedly noticed the theft attempt and chased after the accused while raising an alarm. Unable to flee with the goat, the accused allegedly threw the animal onto the road with force, killing it on the spot, before escaping on his scooter.

At around 1 pm, the grieving goat owner reached the police station carrying the dead animal and sought legal action against the accused. Police have registered the complaint and launched an investigation into the incident.

The alleged act may attract action under the relevant provisions of animal protection laws, under which cruelty to animals is a punishable offence.
