Cuttack, June 4: A woman died by suicide allegedly after jumping into the Mahanadi River from Trisulia bridge. The incident has left the local community in shock. Her body was later recovered by a Fire Services team, while Baranga Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to reports, morning walkers noticed a bag and a pair of slippers lying on the bridge and immediately alerted the police. Soon after, personnel from Baranga Police Station and the Fire Services Department reached the spot and began a search operation. The woman's body was subsequently recovered from the river and sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for post-mortem examination.

Police identified the deceased as 28-year-old Chandrika Hembram based on a doctor's prescription found inside her bag. Officers also recovered a mobile phone from her belongings. Preliminary information suggests that she may have jumped from the bridge into the river. However, investigators are not ruling out any possibility and are examining all angles, including whether it was a case of suicide or if foul play was involved.

Police said the exact cause and circumstances of the death will be established after a detailed investigation and the post-mortem report.
