Patna, September 24: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Thursday criticised the Bihar government over the state’s law-and-order situation following a recent molestation case in Samastipur.
Kishor questioned the administration’s ability to control crime and criticised what he described as an overreliance on police encounters instead of addressing systemic issues.
“I have said this several times; it is unfair to speak of a crime-free society if the Head of a state is someone illiterate and criminal,” Kishor said, referring to Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. He also questioned the government’s approach to tackling crime.
Kishor further alleged that Bihar lacked stable leadership in key administrative and police positions. He claimed that political differences between the JD(U) and BJP were affecting decisions related to appointments and transfers.
His remarks came amid public concern over recent incidents involving alleged crimes against women and minors in Bihar, including a case in Samastipur in which a video reportedly showed a young girl being subjected to indecent behaviour near an embankment road in Jagat Singhpur village.
An alleged assault involving a Class 10 student in Jamui had also triggered reactions over women’s and children’s safety in the state. Police have said legal action has been initiated against the accused in the reported cases.
