Bhubaneswar, August 31: A 22-year-old woman from Mayurbhanj district has alleged that she was gang-raped by five men, police said on Saturday.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Friday evening when two acquaintances offered to take her in a car from the Bangiriposi area under the guise of discussing a job opportunity. The woman stated that she was later driven to the Udala area, nearly 80 km away, where three more men joined them.

The group allegedly took her to a deserted stretch between Udala and Balasore and sexually assaulted her before abandoning her on the roadside, said Hrushikesh Nayak, SDPO, Udala.

Based on her statement, the police have registered a case. Two suspects have been detained, and efforts are underway to trace the remaining three accused, officials said.
