Jharsuguda, Dec 5: In a major anti-corruption action, Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Gouranga Sahu, Forester of Bandhbahal Section under Brajrajnagar Range, Jharsuguda district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
According to reports, Sahu demanded the bribe from a landowner in exchange for granting permission to cut and transport dry eucalyptus trees from his own land. The landowner reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, prompting an immediate trap.
A Vigilance team caught Sahu red-handed inside his office premises while he was attempting to flee upon spotting the team. The entire bribe amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused in connection with undisclosed assets.
A case has been registered under Rourkela Vigilance P.S. Case No. 13 dated 04.12.2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation into the matter is ongoing.
