Balangir, July 11: While the Odisha Driver’s Federation is almost continuing with its peaceful protest since days together, as many as 8 drivers were held in Balangir allegedly assaulting a trucker, on the wheels.
The Puintala police on Friday arrested the drivers for their alleged involvement in an attack on a truck driver during the Quit Steering Wheel agitation, called by the Odisha Driver Mahasangh.
According to report, one Manoj Bagarti (27), a resident of Bhaler village under Puintala police limits in Balangir district, was driving a truck from Sonepur district’s Saradhapali Ethanol Plant for Balangir. Meanwhile, he was attacked by the drivers who were raising the protest on the road at the Bhainsapali Toll Gate.
Based on a complaint lodged with the Puintala police, a case was registered in this connection and the accused drivers were arrested promptly.
“We have arrested eight in connection with the assault. Further investigation is underway,” said Anita Pradhan, Inspector-in-Charge of Puintala police.
