Bhawanipatna, Oct 4: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Marketing Inspector (MI) of Th. Rampur Block in Kalahandi district while demanding and accepting Rs 14,000 bribe from a complainant.
The accused has been identified Sumanta Mallik.
Sources said, acting on a tip-off, the vigilance sleuths arrested Mallik for demanding and accepting for processing his application and inclusion of others for their ration cards under the “Antyodaya Scheme”.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Mallik and seized. The Vigilance officials had set up a trap to arrest Mallik.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Mallik from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered at the Koraput Vigilance police station against Mallik in this connection under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is in progress against Mallik.
