Bhubaneswar, June 4: Police on Wednesday cracked down on an inter-district vehicle theft gang, arresting two of its members and recovering ten stolen vehicles, officials said.
According to Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the arrested individuals have been identified as Arman Saha (25) and Iftikar Alam (23). The gang is believed to have been operating across Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Cuttack, and Puri, targeting vehicles parked along roadsides at night using duplicate keys.
Investigations revealed that the stolen vehicles were taken to forested areas near Pipili, where the suspects removed their license plates. Some of the vehicles were later dismantled and sold as scrap, while others were used for further illegal activities.
The recovered vehicles include models such as the Mahindra Scorpio, Bolero Pickups, Tata Ace, and parts of a dismantled, unidentified four-wheeler. Both suspects are currently in police custody as the investigation continues to trace other gang members and dismantle the larger network.
Police have urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant, especially when parking in unsecured areas, and to adopt precautionary measures to protect their vehicles from theft.
