Elite state coaches empower Kataka Panthers ahead of Odisha T20 League rematch on Sunday

Defending champions kick off their campaign against familiar rivals tomorrow.

Defending champions Kataka Panthers are primed to launch their title defense against Sambalpur Warriors tomorrow at 7:30 PM. Barabati Stadium will host this highly anticipated opening fixture of the Odisha T20 League 2026 under floodlights. Setting up a thrilling rematch of last season's final, this encounter carries extreme significance for both squads as they fight for early momentum. Odisha's rich cricketing culture continues to flourish as this tournament offers local talents a prime stage to display their skills and gain national attention.

Championship pedigree and preparations

Backed by Jay Bharat Spices Pvt. Ltd., the Panthers enter the ground with sharp match readiness and high confidence. Captain Biplab Samantaray confirmed his unit is completely focused on successfully keeping their crown this year. He noted that after rigorous practice sessions and securing two dominant victories over MGM School of Sports during warm-up games at the East Coast Railway Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the squad feels exceptionally prepared. Their balanced roster combines dynamic young talents with experienced veterans, ensuring they are ready to tackle upcoming challenges.

Elite coaching mentorship

Strategic guidance from two celebrated state coaches provides the Panthers with immense tactical strength and inspiration. Pravanjan Mullick, the current head coach of the Odisha Senior Men's team, brings exceptional institutional knowledge directly to the dugout. His illustrious playing career features over 5,000 first-class runs with an average exceeding 50, alongside a unique state record of scoring four double centuries. Mullick also remains the only local cricketer to hit a century in both innings of a single match twice, bringing unmatched winning culture to his leadership role.

Bowling strategies and focus

Assistant Coach Deepak Mangaraj works closely with the bowling unit to fine-tune their approach on the field. Managing the Odisha Senior Women's squad, Mangaraj possesses vital franchise experience after working with global stars in the Legends League Cricket 2024. His prior stint with Puri Titans adds sharp competitive insight to his mentoring. Franchise Owner Susanta Kumar Panda emphasized that having these stalwarts deeply involved gives the players unmatched direction and belief to play their best cricket. Samantaray echoed this sentiment, confirming that training under their watchful eyes has provided tremendous clarity ahead of the campaign.
