Odisha welcomes a new English Daily: 'Prameya times' debuts on Diwali

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: Marking the auspicious occasion of Diwali, a new English-language newspaper, Prameya Times, has made its debut, offering a special festive gift to the people of Odisha from the Prameya family. The launch marks a new initiative by the Prameya family (SRMPL) to take the stories of Odisha—its people, challenges, changing aspirations and development journey—to a wider readership.

Odisha is evolving, and so are the hopes and aspirations of its people. A new generation is emerging with changing preferences, ambitions and an increasing appetite for rapid access to information. As the state advances on the path of development, the challenges, shortcomings and unintended consequences accompanying this transformation are also becoming more complex. Bringing these issues to public attention and ensuring that they receive the scrutiny they deserve will be one of the key responsibilities of Prameya Times.

With an extensive news-gathering network spanning every district, panchayat, town and village across Odisha, the Prameya family is well-positioned to highlight issues from every corner of the state. ‘Prameya Times’ will serve as a platform to take these ground-level realities to a wider audience, while placing them before the government, administrative authorities and political leadership.

The newspaper will also take up the responsibility of showcasing Odisha’s achievements, social and intellectual progress, rich heritage, cultural legacy and, above all, the distinctive identity and pride of the Odia people (Odia Asmita) to audiences across India and beyond.

At a time when the very nature of news and the definition of journalism are undergoing a significant transformation, ‘Prameya Times’ seeks to embrace a more inclusive and contemporary approach to reporting. The era of one-sided news coverage is giving way to a more participatory media landscape, where every citizen can become a source of information and every issue can have multiple perspectives.

Recognising this changing media environment, the newspaper aims to bring diverse viewpoints and voices before its readers with objectivity, fairness and impartiality. Its editorial approach will focus on presenting different sides of every important issue, enabling readers to form informed opinions.

With this commitment, Prameya Times begins its journey as a new voice for Odisha, aspiring to connect local realities with a wider national and international audience.
