Low-Pressure area over Bay of Bengal likely to intensify; Odisha Coast on alert

 A low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by September 21 and further strengthen into a deep depression by September 22 before moving towards the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

Bhubaneswar, September 20: A low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by September 21 and further strengthen into a deep depression by September 22 before moving towards the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea moved west-northwestwards and lay over the east-central Bay of Bengal at 5.30 pm on Sunday.

The weather system is very likely to continue moving in a west-northwestward direction and gradually intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal by September 21, the IMD said.

It is further expected to strengthen into a deep depression over the west central Bay of Bengal by September 22.

Continuing its west-northwestward movement, the system is very likely to reach the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, close to the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts, by the morning of September 23, according to the weather office.

The developing system is likely to affect weather conditions along the Odisha coast. The IMD is expected to provide further updates on rainfall, wind speed and sea conditions as the system intensifies and moves closer to the coast.

Authorities and coastal communities are likely to remain watchful as the weather system progresses, with the IMD monitoring its movement and intensity closely.
