Vande Bharat Express Speeds Donor Heart from Ankleshwar to Ahmedabad for Life-Saving Transplant

Ahmedabad, Aug. 2:The Vande Bharat Express once again proved its value in emergency medical transport by making its first-ever stop at Ankleshwar Railway Station to carry a donor heart to Ahmedabad for a life-saving transplant.

The donor heart was retrieved from Smt. Jayaben Modi Multi-Specialty Hospital in Ankleshwar. Given the limited time available for heart transplantation, authorities created a dedicated "Green Corridor" to ensure the organ was transported swiftly and without interruption from the hospital to the railway station within minutes.

A team of doctors from Ahmedabad's U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre accompanied the donor heart on the Vande Bharat Express, whose high-speed service helped ensure the organ reached its destination within the critical transplant window.

The heart is set to be transplanted into a patient undergoing treatment at U N Mehta Hospital. The procedure will mark the institute's 78th successful heart transplant.

This is the second time in just three days that a donor heart has been transported to U N Mehta Hospital using the Vande Bharat Express, underscoring the train's growing role in supporting emergency healthcare logistics.

Earlier on Friday, Indian Railways achieved a historic milestone by transporting a live donor heart by train for the first time in the country. The organ was carried from Surat to Ahmedabad aboard the Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express and delivered safely to U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre for transplantation.

According to an official press release, the successful missions highlight the speed, punctuality and reliability of the Vande Bharat Express while demonstrating Indian Railways' expanding contribution to critical healthcare services and emergency medical transportation.Bottom of Form
