Mahakumbh Nagar (UP), December 16: Uttar Pradesh is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a grand, safe, and eco-friendly Mahakumbh 2025. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated several key projects, including a state-of-the-art geo tube-based wastewater treatment plant in Salori, Prayagraj, to uphold the purity of the Ganga River during the festival.

The Mahakumbh, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025, is expected to attract millions of pilgrims. To prepare for the influx, the Rs 55 crore treatment plant, operated by UP Jal Nigam Urban, is set to become fully functional from January 1, 2025. It aims to treat wastewater from 22 previously untapped city drains, following the Chief Minister's directive to prevent untreated sewage from entering the river.

Advanced Technology for Purity

Executive Engineer Saurabh Kumar highlighted the use of advanced geo tube technology, which effectively treats 40-50% of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and 80% of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in wastewater. The process includes further purification using hydrogen peroxide and ozonisation, ensuring the treated water is free from harmful bacteria before being released into the river. Ozonisation, considered safer than traditional chlorination, guarantees maximum safety for the water.

To ensure quality control, the treatment process will be monitored in real time using the Online Continuous Effluent Monitoring System (OCEEMS).

Chief Minister’s Visit and High-Level Preparations

Chief Minister Adityanath inspected the Salori treatment plant on December 12, emphasizing the importance of a seamless execution of the project during Mahakumbh. He issued instructions to ensure all facilities are fully functional and ready to support the massive gathering.

Adding a technological edge to the preparations, the Prime Minister recently launched the Kumbh Sah’AI’yak chatbot. This AI-based assistant will offer real-time updates, guidance, and information to visitors, ensuring they have a smooth experience throughout the festival.

Key Dates for the Mahakumbh

The Mahakumbh will feature significant bathing rituals, including the Shahi Snan (royal baths) on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
