Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), July 12: In a swift and decisive action, Lucknow Police filed a chargesheet within 24 hours in a case involving the rape of a seven-year-old girl from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The case was promptly taken up by a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Malihabad, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. A medical examination was immediately conducted to preserve critical forensic evidence under the supervision of senior health officials ,including the Director of Health, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS).
Key evidence—including swabs, the victim’s clothing, and DNA samples—was collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Eyewitness accounts and family statements were also recorded without delay. Acting on instructions from senior officer Vishakh G. Iyer, a woman doctor completed the medico-legal procedures the same night.
The minor was transported by ambulance to provide her statement before a judicial magistrate. District administration, led by the Lucknow District Magistrate, played a crucial role in ensuring an unhindered legal process.
The accused, Suchit Yadav, was arrested within 10 hours of the incident based on CCTV footage, mobile phone tracking, and local intelligence. He has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Lucknow Police Commissioner has recommended that the case be fast-tracked in court. Notably, officials highlighted that while a similar chargesheet was filed within 36 hours in 2022, this case marks a new benchmark with the process completed in just 24 hours.
