Bhubaneswar: India's decorated para badminton star Pramod Bhagat continued his impressive run on the international circuit by winning the Men's Singles SL3 Gold Medal at the British & Irish Para Badminton International 2026, held from 24–28 June 2026.

In an all-Indian final, Bhagat defeated compatriot Nitesh Kumar Paris Paralympic 2024 Gold Medallist in a gripping contest, registering a 23-21, 21-14 victory in 44 minutes to claim the title.

The opening game lived up to expectations as both players matched each other point for point. Nitesh made the stronger start and maintained a slender lead until 15-13, with Bhagat staying within striking distance throughout. The momentum shifted when Bhagat strung together a series of crucial points to level the score at 18-all. From there, both shuttlers produced high-quality rallies before Bhagat held his nerve to edge the first game 23-21.

The second game was evenly poised at 5-5 before Bhagat elevated his game, reeling off a remarkable run of 10 consecutive points to open up a commanding lead. Displaying complete control thereafter, he sealed the second game 21-14, securing the championship in straight games.

In Mix Doubles event Pramod Bhagat and Manisha Ramadans also won Bronze Medal.

The triumph adds another prestigious international title to Bhagat's illustrious career and serves as an encouraging result as he continues his preparations for the upcoming major international competitions.

Speaking after his victory, Pramod Bhagat said: "Every tournament is an opportunity to test myself and improve. Nitesh played exceptionally well, especially in the opening game, and I had to stay patient and believe in my game. I'm happy to come away with the gold medal. This victory gives me confidence, but the focus remains on continuing to improve and preparing for the bigger challenges ahead. I thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey."
