Mumbai, August 24: The makers of Taapsee Pannu-starrer Gandhari have denied allegations of plagiarism, after a Mumbai-based writer reportedly claimed that the film drew elements from his work.

Kathha Pictures, which is backing the project, has rejected the allegations and maintained that Gandhari is an original story written by Kanika Dhillon.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the makers said the allegations that the film copied another person's concept or used their title were “false” and categorically denied them. They added that Gandhari is an original work written and produced by Dhillon and developed by Kathha Pictures, with the story and screenplay being her own.

The makers also urged media outlets, digital platforms and the public to treat the allegations as unverified and refrain from presenting or circulating them as established facts.

Set in the fictional town of Joypurra, Gandhari follows Bani, a mother navigating a dangerous world in a determined search for her daughter. The film explores themes of maternal love, resilience, courage and sacrifice.

Directed by [director, if required], the film also features Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna.

Gandhari is set to premiere on Netflix on September 3.
