New Delhi, Jul 16: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has reminded parents to complete the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children who are seven years old but have not yet updated their Aadhaar details.

As per the current rule, children under the age of five are enrolled for Aadhaar using their photograph, name, date of birth, gender, and address, but their fingerprints and iris scans are not taken due to their underdeveloped biometric features. When a child turns five, they are required to update their fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph, which is known as the first Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU). This update is free of charge for children between the ages of five and seven. However, after the age of seven, a fee of Rs. 100 is charged for the update.

It is essential to complete the MBU on time, as failing to do so may result in the deactivation of the child’s Aadhaar number. UIDAI has emphasized that this update helps keep children’s biometric data accurate and ensures their Aadhaar can be used for services like school admissions, entrance exams, scholarships, and government schemes.

To remind parents, UIDAI is sending SMS notifications to the mobile numbers linked with the Aadhaar accounts of children who need the update. Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the process at the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or designated Aadhaar centre.
