Bhubaneswar, July 5: With the rain fury battering Odisha for days together, at least 4 workers got trapped overnight inside the Khordha-Balangir railway tunnel in Odisha’s Boudh district on Saturday.
The workmen were safely pulled out of the water-filled tunnel following a tiring rescue operation in the wee hours on Sunday.
According to reports, a crew of workers was executing the inner work of the Khordha-Balangir tunnel No. 4 at Adenigarh under the Boudh district limit. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall caused floodwater to gush into the tunnel late making it impossible for the crew to exit.
On being informed of the mishap by the locals, a coordinated operation was initiated to save the workers from the wrath of flushing water.
After several hours of effort, the workers were brought out safely, said sources.
No injuries have been reported, and the workers are said to be in stable condition.
Following the mishap, further construction work was aborted indefinitely for the IMD’s red alert that predicts incessant rain across the state.
