Bhubaneswar, July 6: Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena has submitted his resignation to the Odisha government, citing personal reasons, official sources confirmed on Sunday. The resignation is currently under consideration and has not yet been accepted by the state government.
A senior government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the government recently received Meena's resignation and is examining the matter before taking a final decision.
A 2013-batch IPS officer, Meena has reportedly been exploring opportunities in the private sector. Sources indicated that he may join a company owned by one of his close relatives in Rajasthan if his resignation is accepted. However, Meena declined to comment on the development.
Before taking charge as the Bhubaneswar DCP on February 28, 2025, Meena served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Angul and Ganjam districts. He also held the post of DCP in the Cuttack Urban Police District.
His resignation comes at a crucial time for the Commissionerate Police, which has been under scrutiny following the daylight lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain at Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The incident drew sharp criticism over the police's handling of the mob violence, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently expressing dissatisfaction over the alleged lapses in law enforcement.
