Mumbai, August 27: Ganesh Chaturthi brought a rare moment of unity in Maharashtra politics as Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray visited his cousin, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, at his Shivtirth residence. This marked Uddhav’s first visit to Raj’s home in nearly two decades.
Earlier in the day, Raj visited the Thackeray family’s Matoshree residence to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha, highlighting a public display of reconciliation between the estranged cousins ahead of the upcoming Mumbai civic elections.
The Thackeray cousins had parted ways in 2005 following differences after the death of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Their relationship remained strained for years as they competed for political dominance and the Sena legacy.
However, recent political developments, including their joint opposition to the now-withdrawn order mandating Marathi language education from Class I to V, have rekindled their ties. Their renewed camaraderie signals a potential alliance in the fiercely contested municipal polls later this year.
