Puri, Oct 8: An alleged attack on a police officer by two intoxicated youths has raised serious concerns over rising lawlessness in the region. The incident took place on Tuesday night at Gop Police Station in Puri district, where Sub-Inspector Bulu Sethy was reportedly assaulted while on duty.
According to police sources, the accused — identified as Sushanta Kumar Nayak of Ganeshwarpur village and Pradeep Kumar Behera of Sorisiapada village — were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when they launched the attack. The duo reportedly created a ruckus within the police station premises before physically assaulting the officer.
Following the incident, police immediately detained the two youths in an inebriated state. They are currently being held at Gop Police Station for interrogation. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack and questioning how the accused dared to assault a law enforcement officer inside the station.
