Trump Appoints Loyalist as New India Ambassador
US President Donald Trump has appointed Sergio Gor, a close confidant and the current White House personnel director, as the next US ambassador to India. The move places a trusted loyalist in one of the most critical diplomatic posts, signaling the President's desire for a representative who can be counted on to deliver on his personal agenda.
Emphasis on Trust and Loyalty
In his announcement, President Trump described Gor as a "great friend, who has been at my side for many years." He emphasized the importance of having someone he can "fully trust" in the most populous region of the world. Gor's role will be extensive, as he will also serve as the special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
Gor's career has been deeply intertwined with the Trump family and political machine. He co-founded a publishing house with Donald Trump Jr., which published two of the President's books, and ran one of the largest Super PACs supporting Trump's campaigns. As personnel director, he has been responsible for vetting and hiring thousands of "America First Patriots" across the federal government.
New Envoy Expresses Gratitude
Reacting to his nomination, Gor expressed his deep gratitude, calling it the "honor of my life to represent the United States." He thanked the President for his "incredible trust and confidence." Gor will remain in his current White House role until he is confirmed by the Senate. He will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador until January 2025.
