Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: In an inspiring turn of events, a poor tribal woman from Mayurbhanj district has received a special invitation from Rashtrapati Bhavan to attend the Independence Day banquet on 15 August.
The woman, Suru Tiriya, hails from Basaghutu village under Kusumi block in Bamanghati subdivision. Known for her humble lifestyle, Suru expressed both immense joy and surprise upon receiving the invitation from President Droupadi Murmu.
Officials including Rairangpur postal division inspector Tanmaya Sahu and BPM Anand Raidas personally visited Suru’s home to hand over the invitation letter.
Unmarried, Suru lives with her brother, sister-in-law, nephews, and nieces. Alongside farming, she also rears goats, cows, and other domestic animals to help support her family.
This rare honour has brought pride to her village, with locals calling it recognition of her simple yet hardworking life.
