Balangir, June 9: A mother and daughter were killed in a tragic road accident after a truck allegedly ran over their scooter on National Highway-26 in Balangir town on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred near the Bajaj showroom at Gandhinagar Pada. According to sources, the duo was travelling on a scooter when a speeding truck hit them, leading to their death on the spot.

The deceased were residents of Balangir town. It is learnt that the daughter was on her way to drop her mother, who worked at a private nursing home, when the mishap took place.

Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene. On being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and launched an investigation. Efforts are on to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.
