Nabarangpur, Sept 9: A tragic incident has rocked Rajpur village under Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district, where two siblings lost their lives after being bitten by a venomous snake late Monday night.

The deceased have been identified as 11-year-old Amita and her 9-month-old brother Ruturaj. According to sources, the family had retired to bed after dinner when the incident occurred. While asleep, the siblings were attacked by a venomous snake, leading to a rapid deterioration in their condition.

Initially, the family rushed the children to a local traditional healer in the village. However, as their condition worsened, they were shifted to the Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, both children were declared dead on arrival.

The heartbreaking loss has plunged the local community into deep mourning, highlighting once again the dangers of snakebite incidents in rural Odisha and the urgent need for awareness and access to timely medical intervention.
